What is Spiritual Direction?

For centuries, the ministry of spiritual direction has offered Christians a sacred space for guidance and deepening their relationship with God. It is a companionship of intentional, prayerful listening—an opportunity to attune to God’s presence in a world filled with noise and distraction. In the midst of our hurried lives, spiritual direction provides an unhurried, uninterrupted space to focus on the care of the soul. It is an invitation to step away from the clamor of daily life and return to God with our whole heart.

What is the role of a spiritual director?

A spiritual director is not a counselor but a gentle guide, helping individuals become more aware of how God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—is moving in their lives. Over time, with the support of an attentive spiritual director, one begins to notice the subtle nudges and whispers of God that awaken the heart. These moments of recognition—spiritual aha moments—can be life-changing. Spiritual direction also equips individuals with meaningful practices, such as different forms of prayer and the art of discernment, essential for deepening one’s walk with God.

– Gifted and practiced in discernment and listening to the Spirit within.
– Committed to a life of listening and spiritual accompaniment.

– In spiritual direction themselves and in spiritually discerning peer group.
